Molly Macdermot Named Editor-In-Chief of Bauer Publication’s J-14 Magazine

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ (October 16, 2008) – Bauer Publishing Group President and Chief Executive Officer Hubert Boehle today announced that Molly MacDermot has been named editor-in-chief of J-14 magazine, effective immediately. MacDermot, who currently serves as editor-in-chief of M magazine, will helm both Bauer titles and report to Boehle. MacDermot succeeds Janet Giovanelli, who has moved to Life & Style magazine in the newly created position of style director, overseeing the fashion and beauty content.”There is a void in the publishing world for readers transitioning from the tween titles to the celebrity weeklies,” said Boehle. “Molly has a proven track record of understanding and speaking to this genre. Under her guidance, we are looking forward to getting a firm hold on this new space and taking J-14 to the next level.”

MacDermot helped found M magazine – the entry-book into the world of celebrity for young girls – in December 2000. While at M, she was also the editor-in-chief of Twist magazine from January 2007 to June 2008, where newsstand sales increased by 27 percent under her leadership. Prior, MacDermot was one of the original senior staffers at J-14 when the magazine launched in November 1998. She has worked in various other editorial capacities at Redbook, Marie Claire Australia and The New Yorker. Additionally, MacDermot has written numerous entertainment books on pop stars, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, ‘N Sync and Mandy Moore.

“Teenage girls are thirsty for celebrity and entertainment news that speaks directly to them,” said MacDermot. “I hope to bring my passion for this subject to the table and give our readers exactly what they want in a fresh, new way.”J-14 is America’s most comprehensive celebrity and entertainment news magazine in the teen market today. Its mission is to consistently deliver more photos, interviews, updates and all-around entertainment coverage than any other magazine in the category. Each issue features the highest concentration of in-depth reporting and close-up photography of the actors, actresses and musicians that teens adore.

In the U.S., Bauer currently publishes a variety of magazines that connect with a nationwide audience of active, engaged newsstand consumers at every life stage — from tweens and teens (M, J-14, Twist, Quizfest, AstroGirl, Life Story) to young women (In Touch Weekly, Life & Style Weekly) to baby boomers and beyond (Woman’s World, First For Women, Soaps In Depth).
